Naples Better Government - our story

Established in 1991, Naples Better Government was founded by leaders with a combined 200+ years of devoted community service in Collier County. The committee's primary concern is about promoting ethical government. Registered as a Political Committee (PC) that same year, Naples Better Government remains the most active and longest operating Political Committee in Collier County, Florida.

Naples Better Government significantly expanded its scope of influence in community affairs—most notably with the establishment of Elected Official Evaluations.  Conducted at the end of their first year in office, public officials are interviewed and evaluated. Each receives a letter grade based upon their accomplishments as compared with their campaign promises and platform, in addition to a general evaluation of performance.  A “report card” is then issued and released to the media.

Over the years, Naples Better Government has endorsed more than 100 candidates for public office, including those for Collier County Board of County Commission; Naples City Council; Collier County School Board; elected Collier County public officials, including Sheriff, County Clerk, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, and Supervisor of Elections, in addition to other local and state offices.

Naples Better Government demonstrates a commitment to educating residents about candidates and critical ballot issues by participating in the sponsorship of public forums focused on those candidates and issues and by the publication of their endorsements and positions in the local media.
